INDORE – Syed Sarah, the 19-year-old Muslim student at a private college, was allegedly murdered by her friend and jilted lover 23-year-old Gaurav Sarkar along with his girlfriend Snigdha Mishra in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore.

The murder was committed two months ago on 25 April under the jurisdiction of Kshipra police station. The accused Sarkar and Mishra were arrested earlier this week.

Family members of Sarah had filed a missing complaint in April. The police came into action and arrested the accused only after the family members moved the high court.

Talking to reporters about the case, SP (rural) Hitika Vasal said: “A missing complaint of a college student Syed Sarah was reported at Kshipra police station (On April 26) and when the police investigated the matter seriously, it was found that she was last seen with a person named Gaurav. Police were continuously investigating the case and were also questioning Gaurav. He was repeatedly misleading the police and was also changing his location”.

Sarah was a second-year student at the Pharmacy Department in the college while Sarkar and Mishra were from different classes.

“The main reason for the murder that has come to light is that Gaurav likes Sahara but she likes someone else. While Snigdha likes Gaurav and Gaurav has also blackmailed Snigdha that if she does not help him then he will leave her. There are two accused in this case Gaurav and Snigdha. Both of them made the entire planning of the murder and they had also done recce of many spots. After that they finalised the spot,” SP Vasal said.

According to reports, Sarah had asked Gaurav not to follow her while refusing her relationship proposal. Her family members also stopped the accused from doing so. When her relatives strongly warned him against coming in Sarah way, he planned to murder her.

“On the day of the incident (April 25), Gaurav called Sarah and asked her for a visit to Choral and Omkareshwar and then picked up Snigdha from her college with him on the way. The trio went for the trip but on the way, Gaurav moved the car towards the forest and stopped there. He killed Sarah by strangling her and also attacked her with a knife,” the SP added.

According to the police, they have searched the incident spot a lot and have found many such items whose samples were being collected to be sent for DNA testing. The full body has not been found, some things like a bracelet which was identified by the family, some personal belongings, hair, clothes have been found from the spot.
