Police intensify investigation into alleged funding, examining financial sources, accomplices, and communications of the accused during his period on the run
INDORE – The alleged ‘Love Jihad’ case in this Madhya Pradesh city continues to escalate as Congress councillor Anwar Qadri, arrested in connection with funding accusations, faces extended police remand. The BánGanga Police successfully obtained a four-day extension from the court, now keeping Qadri in custody until 12 September.
Police sources stated that the extension is being used to investigate who assisted Qadri during his period on the run and to trace the sources of funds used while he evaded authorities.
Investigations have revealed that during his time on the run, Qadri travelled to Nagpur, where he purchased fake SIM cards to maintain contact with his associates. The BánGanga police team has already visited the Nagpur shop where the SIM cards and mobile devices were bought, questioning the shop owner for details.
Police reports suggest that Qadri spent a significant amount of money while evading arrest, prompting a deeper probe into the origins and flow of these funds. Authorities are now attempting to identify all individuals involved in supporting him during this period.
BánGanga Police Station in-charge Siyaram Gujar said, “We are investigating every aspect of the case and hope to uncover several important leads soon. The extended remand provides our team the opportunity to continue questioning and gather crucial information regarding the funding network and accomplices.”
Further reports indicate that an additional case may be registered against Qadri, as police aim to ensure that the entire alleged network behind the funding is fully exposed.
Officials emphasised that the ongoing inquiry is not limited to Qadri’s actions alone but is also aimed at uncovering the larger network of individuals involved in financing and supporting the alleged ‘Love Jihad’ activities. Authorities are working systematically to trace financial transactions and connections that facilitated his evasion and operational support.
Police sources confirmed that the extended remand could potentially reveal critical leads, allowing investigators to build a comprehensive understanding of the network and identify all participants.
