DALLAS – In response to the discriminatory and unconstitutional laws, intense protests have spread across India and worldwide. Indian American Muslim Council (IAMC), the largest advocacy group of Indian Muslims in the United States, along with the Council on American Islamic Relations, Texas will also be holding a peaceful protest against this discriminatory law in Dallas, at 2 pm on Sunday.

Announcing the notification of the protest, the said “the Government of India recently enacted a discriminatory and unconstitutional law called the Citizenship Amendment Act (“CAA”) which, along with the National Register of Citizens (“NRC”), will officially marginalize and render millions of its most vulnerable people – Muslims and other marginalized communities – stateless. The act makes religion a criteria for nationality for the first time. It is the most significant move yet to profoundly alter India’s secular nature enshrined by its founding leaders when the country gained independence in 1947. The law solidifies Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Hindu-nationalist agenda”.

The protest will be held as follows:

What: Peaceful Protest Against India’s Discriminatory Citizenship Law
Where: Dealey Plaza, 400 Main Street, Dallas, TX
When: Sunday, Dec 22 2019, 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM

A cross section of the diaspora from the Indian sub-continent will be in attendance from all religions and faiths to express their concerns and stand in solidarity to oppose this draconian law and to demand the Indian Government to scrap this law and uphold India’s constitution and it’s cherished ideals of secularism and pluralism.
