THE #MEETOO movement that highlights justice in instances of sexual molestation of women in US, began about 2 years ago. Many a women who were sexually molested 10 or 20 or 30 years ago by men, who became VIPs and important men in those years, but who had kept quiet all these years gradually spoke up in public and publicly identified those predator male VIPs.

Even though this has been a movement of all American women, the overwhelming number of women who spoke up and took lead have been middleclass educated White women from good families. Most are well educated professional women. In trying to advance their careers in a male dominated society, they came across powerful men, mostly white men, who were sexual predators. They took advantage of these women and sexually molested them.

The list of women victims includes some from the upper rungs of society like Patti Davis, the step-daughter of President Ronald Reagan, and so many others. The list of predator men also includes some top and renowned men like famous actor Bill Cosby, PBS anchor for many years Charlie Rose, movie industry mogul Harry Weinstein and the current US President Donald Trump, among so many other famous men.

The courage demonstrated by the well known women helped many lesser known women to also speak up and identify the men who had molested them some years ago.

American society has been slow in giving justice to these women victims. But gradually a large number of upper class men too are waking up and are recognizing the injustice and harassment that so many women have suffered. They are recognizing that sexual molestation is a violent crime that crushes the personality of the women victims, even though it may not cause much physical injury.

Now we heard that actor Bill Cosby has been given a 3 year to 10 year jail sentence by a court in Philadelphia. And US Supreme Court Judgeship candidate Brett Kavanaugh is facing much nationwide indignation and condemnation, even though many powerful politicians and the Republican party are supporting him.

The #METOO movement is continuing to grind down and try to give justice to women victims. This is a very hard struggle for women because all rungs of society and business worlds are dominated by men and a significant number of them think of pretty women as fair game for sexual exploits.

The Association of Indian Muslims of America, on behalf of all Indian-Americans fully supports the #METOO movement and demands justice for women victims through the US legal process. No matter how powerless a woman and how powerful a man who subjects her to sexual molestation, justice through legal means should be done. That is the preamble etched on the famous Statue of Liberty, a cornerstone of the American society for a very long time.

This movement is like a strong breeze of fesh air and it will soon rejuvenate the American society and help the nation achieve the lofty ideals enshrined in the US Constitution.
