NEW DELHI – A Muslim man identified as Nazim, was stripped and beaten up by a Hindutva mob in the Quarsi area on 3rd July.
Nazim was allegedly talking to a Hindu woman, when he was beaten by the mob.
A video of the incident has gone viral showing the stripped man being interrogated by a mob.
A statement issued by the additional SP Amrit Jain said that the police came to know about a man harassing a woman. After reaching the spot, police took the man into custody.
However, the police did not comment on the mob attack and assault on him.
Meanwhile, Aligarh Mayor and BJP leader Shakuntala Devi has threatened the police with consequences if the police fails to initiate an action against the interfaith relationships.
“If strict action is not initiated against such people, the administration will have to pay a price for this. We made this announcement that if someone plays with the dignity of our women, we ourselves will deal with them…we know how to protect ourselves,” Shakuntala Devi made provocative statements in a video.
In another incident, a minor Muslim boy was thrashed by a group of people after they asked him his name, in Banndevi area. The minor had gone to meet his ill mother at Malkhan Singh District Hospital.
According to the victim, he was going to fetch water for his father when some people on the way asked him for his name. “After Knowing my name, they took me to the roof of the hospital and started beating me,” the minor (name withheld) said.
The video of this incident had also surfaced on the internet. In the video the victim can be seen imploring and crying for help while one man was beating him and another one was shooting video of the horrendous act.
Family members of the minor said that the boy did not reveal anything about the incident to them as the attackers had threatened to kill him if he uttered a word about it.
The Family came to know about the incident after the video went viral on social media. The family members and the locals protest, demanding strict action against the culprits.
An FIR was lodged under BNS sections 115, 353(2), in Bannadevi police station against the accused, Ravi Kishan and his partners.
This is the third incident of mob violence in Aligarh district in the last two months. Previous month, a Muslim man Mohd Fareed was beaten to death over the suspicion of theft in Mammu Bhanja area. The police arrested several accused but the deceased was later booked for dacoity after Hindutva groups led by BJP MLA held protests demanding the release of the accused.
