NEW DELHI – A viral video on social media platforms shows the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Bulandshahr, Pradeep Kumar Chaudhary, refusing to address a grievance from Fazlu, a Muslim resident of his constituency in Uttar Pradesh. The issue revolved around problems Fazlu faced with a local ration dealer.

In the video which surfaced on Friday (November 29), Chaudhary is seen seated in his office as Fazlu tries to explain his problem. Before allowing him to proceed, the MLA interrupts, asking for his name. Upon hearing it, Chaudhary declares, “I cannot help you. I did not get votes from your community. I even offered you cashews, pistachios, and almonds, but you still didn’t vote for me.”

The incident has drawn widespread condemnation and sparked a debate over the responsibilities of elected officials. Critics argue that Chaudhary’s remarks reflect a divisive mindset, where public service is conditional on political support, undermining the principle of serving all citizens equally.

The incident comes amid ongoing criticism of the BJP for alleged biases against Muslims, particularly regarding political representation and equitable governance. Many within the Muslim community have reported instances where officials prioritise assistance based on perceived political loyalty.

Chaudhary’s remarks have reignited calls for accountability, emphasising the need for leaders to transcend religious and political divides when serving their constituents. Observers stress that such incidents erode trust in public institutions and deepen communal divides, highlighting the urgent need for inclusive governance.
