Police arrest Ravi Kumar for cheating Muslim girls by posing as Rafi, recording private videos and threatening them into silence

NEW DELHI — The Hyderabad police have arrested a Hindu youth, Ravi Kumar, who posed as a Muslim named Rafi to marry three Muslim girls. The case has caused deep anger among Muslim families, with many calling for strict action against the accused.

According to the police, Ravi Kumar, a resident of Aathpur, introduced himself as Rafi to Muslim girls, most of whom were college students 14 to 18 years younger than him. Officers said last week the accused used the false identity to build trust, begin relationships and later pressured them into marriage.

“Ravi Kumar not only hid his religion but also recorded private videos and audio of the girls,” said an officer involved in the investigation. “He used these recordings to blackmail them and force them into silence,” media reports said on Tuesday.

The police said that all three victims were Muslim who feared telling their families due to stigma and social pressure. His third wife finally filed a complaint after repeated threats and harassment.

One of the relatives of the complainant told reporters: “Our daughter suffered in silence because she thought society would blame her instead of the man who trapped her. He targeted her faith and dignity.”

Another local resident said: “This is not just cheating, this is an attack on our community’s daughters. We want the strictest action so that no one dares to play with Muslim girls’ lives again.”

A case has been registered against Ravi Kumar under charges of cheating, criminal harassment and issuing threats. Investigators are now checking if Ravi Kumar trapped more women using the same method.

“We suspect there may be other victims who are still afraid to come forward,” a senior officer said. “We appeal to them to approach the police so that justice can be done.”

The incident has triggered widespread anger among Muslim families in Hyderabad, who say such cases highlight the need for protection of their daughters. Community leaders demanded swift legal action.

“This is not a small matter,” said a community elder. “He used lies, blackmail and threats to ruin Muslim girls’ lives. We will not stay silent.”
