HYDERABAD – Thirty students, who were going to Madrasa in Hyderabad from Jharkhand’s Godda district, were taken into custody by the Railway Police Force (RPF) from Secunderabad railway station two weeks ago.

Some of the students were going to seek admission from the Madrassa, while some were already the students of the Madrassa, all were arrested because few of them did not have required documents with them.

Talking to Clarion India, Affan Nomani, a social activist who is helping these students legally against the arrest said that the students were picked up after Bachpan Bachao Andolan – a children’s rights movement, which campaigns against bonded labour, child labour and human trafficking, and promotes the right to education for all children– filed a complaint alleging that the students were being taken to make them work.

“Bachpan Bachao Andolan is needlessly harassing students. Detaining minors like this on suspicion has unnecessarily instilled fear among students.

This is not the first time, earlier, it happened at other places like Bengaluru,” Nomani said, who also runs an NGO named Shaheen Education and Research Foundation.

Nomani has also written a letter to Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Hyderabad district collector and CWC demanding the immediate release of the students of Madrassa Darul Uloom Ghouse Azam, stating that the parents and students both are facing the difficult times since the detention.

“I request you to kindly look into the matter and direct CWC to ensure the immediate release of these innocent 30 Madrasa students,” the letter stated.

According to Nomani, he and his organisation are fighting tooth and nail to get the students released and he also mentioned that he is in contact with the advocates as well who are working for the release of those students.

Nomani pointed out that the students are locked into a house, hence impacting their Education as well.

“Why is Bachpan Bachao Andolan targeting Madras students only ? So many crimes are committed against minors but they do not raise such real issues rather they are harassing these Madrasa students needlessly,” Nomani alleged.
