‘Hundreds of Families Erased from Civil Registry’: Gaza’s Civil Defence

Date:

GAZA — Hundreds of Palestinian families have been erased from the civil registry in Gaza due to relentless Israeli bombardment, as Israel continues its attacks on the enclave and blocks all humanitarian aid from entering.

More than 200 people are missing under the rubble and emergency teams are unable to reach them, Gaza’s Civil Defense spokesperson said on Sunday.

“Hundreds of families have been erased from the civil registry due to the Israeli bombing,” the spokesman said in a statement on Telegram.

“Those who do not die from Israeli bombing in Gaza die of hunger,” he added.

The rescue group stated in an official announcement that the intensified Israeli attacks have “severely hindered our ability to respond to citizens’ emergency calls.”

The statement attributed the disruption to “a critical shortage of essential resources—most urgently fuel, heavy rescue equipment, spare parts, and vehicle repair supplies.”

As a result, 75% of Civil Defense vehicles across the Gaza Strip are currently out of service due to the ongoing fuel shortage.

“The fuel crisis continues to worsen by the day, as the Israeli occupation persists in preventing the delivery of fuel essential to operating our vehicles—even at the minimum level needed to maintain basic humanitarian operations,” the statement added.

The Civil Defense also warned that within the next 72 hours, all vehicle operations could come to a complete halt, and their teams will be unable to carry out life-saving missions unless immediate fuel supplies are received—even in minimal quantities.

Since March 2, Israel has maintained the closure of Gaza’s main crossings, cutting off food, medical and humanitarian supplies, leading to an unprecedented deterioration of humanitarian conditions, according to reports by human rights organisations who have accused it of using starvation as a weapon of war against Palestinains.

Israel also resumed its genocide in Gaza on March 18, killing over 3,100 Palestinians and wounding more than 8,900—mostly children and women, according the Palestinian Health Ministry. Since the start of the genocide, more than 35,300 people have been killed, at least 10,000 more people are missing and presumed dead, while nearly 121,000 have been wounded.

At least 125 Palestinians have been killed since dawn on Sunday in deadly Israeli attacks targeting crowded residential areas and tents across the Strip.

The last 72 hours in Gaza have been described by residents as “like living through the horrors of Judgment Day,” as Israel intensifies its attacks following the announcement of a large-scale extermination plan.

The current wave of attacks is among the most intense since Israel broke the January ceasefire agreement and resumed its assault on Gaza nearly two months ago.

Amid the intensifying strikes, the Israeli military announced on Saturday that forces had been mobilized for “Operation Gideon’s Chariots” to seize “strategic areas” of Gaza and claimed it had “struck over 150 terror targets throughout the Gaza Strip” in 24 hours.

According to reports, the “Gideon’s Chariots” would see the Israeli forces occupy areas, move civilians to the south of the Strip, and take control of aid distribution.
