NEW DELHI – A Hindutva leader Satyam Pandit was arrested in Ghaziabad district on Monday after he released a video threatening violence against Muslims calling them “Bangladeshi”. Reports suggest that Pandit, who is the president of Rashtriya Hinduveer Sena, was accorded VIP treatment by the Uttar Pradesh police when he was taken into custody in the area of Sehani police station in Patelnagar where he resides.

The viral video shows Pandit warning the Muslims: “I want to warn all those Rohingya, Bangladeshi and Katwe (Circumcised) who are living with us must leave our country in 24-72 hours. Otherwise, the workers of Rashtriya Hinduveer Sena will take up sticks in their hands,” he said.

He also asked the administration to take action to chase away all these people in whatever way possible. “Otherwise, Rashtriya Hinduveer Sena will cut off the beards of these circumcised, uproot their hair and bury them in Bangladesh”.

Pandit was booked under CRPC – 151 at Kotwali police station in Ghaziabad after his inflammatory video went viral on social media.

Pandit was reportedly given VIP treatment by the police who took him to a court in a private car and without handcuffs. The court sent him to 14-day judicial custody.

The police have also not issued any statement concerning the arrest. The media came to know about the arrest only after a video was posted through Pandit’s Facebook account.

Pandit’s arrest comes a day after a mob led by Hindutva leader and history-sheeter Pinki Chaudhry assaulted poor Muslims in a Ghaziabad slum calling them “Bangladeshi”. The mob attacked the labourers after ascertaining their Muslim identity. The mob also set jhuggis of the Muslim labourers

After videos of the incident went viral causing an outrage, the police arrested Chaudhry and clarified that the slum dwellers were not Bangladeshi but Indians who had come there to live from other parts of Uttar Pradesh. They were living in a freehold land.

Several videos of the assault on members of the Muslim community surfaced on social media in which the attackers were seen calling them “Bangladeshi” during the assault. Some of the videos are also from Odisha and Delhi.

The attackers are citing the situation of Bangladesh to attack Muslims in India. After a political uprising against Sheikh Hasina, protesters also attacked some leaders, members and supporters, including Hindus and other minorities, of the Awami League.
