Hindu Raksha Dal Leader, Bhupendra Tomar claims that India is safe only because ‘Hindu brothers’ serve in the police and armed forces
NEW DELHI — An infamous Hindutva protagonist has attracted widespread outrage with his comments that the country’s law enforcement and the borders were safe as long as the Jihadi elements have not infiltrated the police and the country’s security apparatus.
Delivering a hate speech at a public meeting in the Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled state of Uttar Pradesh recently, the leader of the far-right group Hindu Raksha Dal, Bhupendra Tomar, better known as Pinky Chaudhary, claimed that India is safe only because “Hindu brothers” serve in the police and armed forces. “The day Jihadis are recruited into the police or border forces, no one will be able to save you,” he warned the largely Hindu gathering.
A video of the address has gone viral, drawing widespread condemnation on social media.
In the viral video, Pinky Chaudhary is heard saying, “Aaj hum surakshit isliye hain kyunki police mein hamare Hindu bhai hain, seema par hamare Hindu bhai hain. Jis din police mein yeh jihadi bharti ho gaye us din aapko koi bacha nahi sakta. Jis din border par yeh bharti ho gaye us din aapko koi bacha nahi sakta (Today, we are safe because our Hindu brothers are in the police and on the borders. The day these jihadis get recruited into the police and at the borders, no one will be able to save you).”
He also made an unsubstantiated claim that Muslims in the armed forces refused to fight during India’s wars with Pakistan, implying disloyalty. “Such a situation will arise again,” he said, without offering any evidence.
Social media users have roundly criticised the remarks as inflammatory, divisive, and insulting to countless Muslims who serve in India’s security forces. They have tagged the Uttar Pradesh and Ghaziabad police, demanding legal action against Chaudhary. However, no First Information Report (FIR) has been filed as yet.
One user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, “Is this not an insult to the Muslim martyrs who died for the country? Has the UP Police given free rein to such hate speech?” Another user pointed out that the country’s safety does not depend on religion but on the dedication of individuals from all communities who serve with honour.
Pinky Chaudhary is no stranger to controversy. He has previously urged Hindus to arm themselves and, in another video, accused Muslims of planning to demolish the Ram Mandir if a Muslim prime minister were ever elected. His latest comments add to a growing list of provocative statements that critics say incite communal hatred.
