NEW DELHI – Many people associated with the Hindutva ideology ran a hate campaign against Muslims and Islam when a woman from Delhi accused some Muslim men of committing gang-rape and abductions in Ghaziabad on Wednesday. However, the police in Ghaziabad found that the woman made false charges of rape against them due to some land dispute.
Soon after the name of some Muslim men appeared in the gang-rape case, the Hindutva brigade started making disparaging remarks against the Muslim community.
Vinod Bansal, national spokesperson of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, described the incident as “IslamicSexGang” by highlighting the claim of brutality.
Yati Narsinganand, who is notorious for anti-Muslim remarks, also made hate speeches saying the accused committed rape taking inspiration from the Quran and Hadith. “Their religion teaches them this,” he said.
A mob associating itself with the Hindutva groups also held a protest against the incident at the Nand Nagri Railway Station shouting provocative slogans. “If Hindu interest is hurt, blood would be spilled on the road,” shouted the mob.
Rashtriya Swayanam Sevak’s (RSS) Hindi mouthpiece also highlighted the claim of the gang-rape on its Twitter handle.
On Thursday, the Ghaziabad police said that the woman, along with her friends, has faked the incident of gang-rape and abduction to implicate those men who were named in the FIR of the rape.
“The alleged incident did not take place. We have arrested three friends of the woman on the basis of their confessional statements which have been corroborated with evidence. The incident was planned to nail the five men (initial suspects) who had a land dispute with the woman. We have also come across evidence (from Azad’s mobile phone) which suggest that payments were also made to sensationalize the case. There have been two earlier attempts in Delhi to nail the five men and this was the third such pre-planned attempt,” Praveen Kumar, inspector general (Meerut range), told reporters during a press briefing about the incident.
Azad Tehsin, resident of Welcome, Delhi; Gaurav Sharan, resident of Shivam Garden in Badalpur (Gautam Budh Nagar), and Mohammad Afzal, resident of Kaila Bhatta in Ghaziabad, the three men who helped the woman in faking the rape incident, were booked under Indian Penal Code’s section 195 (giving false and fabricated evidences), 467 (forgery) and provisions of the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act.
According to the police, the two suspects named in the rape case, Shah Rukh and Mohammd Javed, have an ancestral property in Nand Nagri in Delhi and the woman’s friend Azad got a power of attorney made in his name and sold the property to a third person. Later, the property, estimated to be worth about ₹53 lakh, was transferred to the woman.
“There was a land dispute and a case regarding that is pending at the Karkardooma district courts in Delhi. The present suspects and woman planned to trump up gang-rape charges against the five men named in the first FIR. We will take suitable legal action against her as well. The investigation is still continuing and more suspects may be apprehended. As per the plan, the woman was staying at a location in Delhi during the period of the alleged kidnap and gang-rape,” IG Praveen Kumar said.
