NEW DELHI — Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind on Saturday lauded efforts by Khap Panchayats, social organisations, Sikhs and other people of Haryana to maintain communal harmony in the crisis situation created for Muslims after violence in Nuh and its neighbouring areas.

“These groups have expressed complete solidarity and sympathy with the Muslims of Mewat, and also exposed the conspiracies of the sectarian forces,” the Jamiat said.

Jamiat President Maulana Arshad Madani said by their support, these groups have encouraged the oppressed Muslims of Mewat. Besides, they have foiled the dangerous conspiracy to accuse Muslims of creating an atmosphere of religious extremism by inciting riots.

“We are people who respond to love with love, we thank all those peace-loving people.  If they did not openly show solidarity with Muslims, the atmosphere of hatred which was being created would have caused bad effects in other places as well. As usual, police and the administration would cover up the actions of the sectarian forces and Muslims alone would have been held responsible for the mischief,” Maulana Madani said.

He said the Khap Panchayats have again shown the country a path to peace and unity.

In the Mewat area, he said, the police were unilaterally arresting Muslim youths. “Rallies are being held in the presence of the police in support of sectarian forces wherein they are openly calling for an economic boycott of Muslims,” he said.

He lambasted the inaction of the state government and the Centre in this regard.

Maulana Madani said that it was necessary that the message of love and peace given by these Khap Panchayats should be spread throughout the country, and people must know that this is the last way to save the country from destruction. “We must remember that hate brings destruction and devastation, and love unites hearts, and brings prosperity. What these Khap Panchayats of Haryana and other peace-loving people have done is a positive and clear indication of a big change in the attitude and thinking of the people.”
