NEW DELHI — Pakistan’s High Commissioner Abdul Basit has cancelled his official two-day visit to Chandigarh due to security reasons, according to media reports.
The meeting between Indian Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Abdul Basit was to be held on July 29 in Chandigarh. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs did not allow Basit to travel with his colleagues.
According to sources, the meeting was called off after a gun battle in Gurdaspur left 10 people dead.
The attack came weeks after Indian PM Modi met Pakistan’s premier Nawaz Sharif in an attempt to revive stalled relations between the nuclear-armed rivals.
Also, Pakistan issued a statement condemning the assault and extending condolences to the people of India
