NEW DELHI — The Ranchhod Das Trust Hospital in Gujarat’s Rajkot is facing backlash after a video surfaced online accusing it of enrolling 350 eye surgery patientCs as BJP members without their consent.

Spilling the beans, Kamlesh Thummar, a patient from Junagadh, shared a video on social media recounting his experience at the hospital, a report in The Observer Post said on Sunday.

Thummar, who had undergone cataract surgery, claimed that the patients were sound asleep they were woken up late at night. Some individuals asked for their mobile numbers and OTPs. “I gave mine, and shortly after, I received a message saying, ‘You have become a BJP member,’” Thummar said. He confronted the person responsible, who confirmed the enrollment into the BJP.

Thummar recorded a video of the encounter and shared it online: “I was told, ‘Without this, no one can be saved.’ That’s when I decided to record the video and make it viral.”

Responding to the allegations, Shanti Badolia, a hospital official said: “This person is not part of our staff. He could have been a contact of one of the patients. We will thoroughly investigate the matter.”

Gujarat BJP Vice President Gordhan Zadaphia also denied the party’s involvement. “We have not instructed anyone to enroll people into the BJP in this manner. If such activities are taking place, we will look into it and take appropriate action,” Zadaphia stated.
