NEW DELHI: Can a genuine peace activist ever talk about blood and war in any situation? What self-proclaimed ‘peace monger’ Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has threatened as outcome of Muslims not giving up claim on Babri Masjid land or Supreme Court not giving verdict in favor of Hindus must have left many professional and open hatemongers far behind.
In interview to India Today TV, he has said that the Hindu majority will not accept the verdict of the Supreme Court in the Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi case if it goes against them and if the issue is not solved in favor of Hindus, India will turn into Syria i.e. a civil war will erupt in the country.
Ravi Shankar, on his own, has become mediator in the case and is trying to convince a group of Muslims to give up claim on Babri Masjid. His latest remarks have come after a cleric named Salman Nadwi, who happened to be member of All India Muslim Personal Law Board, has backtracked from his stand supporting the Art of Living chief. Nadwi has been sacked from the Board for going against its stand. The Board has continued on one stand: the issue should be resolved by the Supreme Court and it will accept the verdict.
“In his interview with India Today, Sri Sri invoked the Syrian civil war to say that Muslims should “give up” their claims on Ayodhya. ‘Muslims should give up their claim on Ayodhya as a goodwill gesture… Ayodhya is not place of faith for Muslims,’ says the channel’s website.
“If the court says the place is for Ram Temple, will it satisfy people? No. If it gives the entire land back to Babri Masjid and asks Muslims to build the mosque, do you think country will go through a peaceful transition? Will there be peace in villages of the country where hundred crore people have deep faith in Sri Ram?”
On Muslims part, Muslim Personal Law Board has repeatedly said, and every law-abiding and peace-loving must say, that it would accept the verdict of Supreme Court even if it is against Muslims.
