NEW DELHI – Darul Uloom Deoband, the influential Islamic seminary in Uttar Pradesh, has said it was ready to take legal recourse if any action is initiated against it on the question of Ghazwa-e Hind fatwa it issued online over a decade ago.
The decision was taken at the three-day meeting of the Majlis Shura, the highest decision-making body of the seminary, which concluded in Deoband on Thursday.
The Shura members expressed satisfaction over the response sent by Darul Uloom Deoband to administrative officers regarding the fatwa. They firmly declared that any action taken against Darul Uloom Deoband would be met with legal recourse.
In the initial session, managers from various vital sectors including education, construction, organisation, and development presented their reports, eliciting contentment from Shura members who then made necessary amendments. Focusing on academic matters, the Shura members deliberated on several significant educational issues and unanimously made important decisions. These decisions included the promotion of teachers, augmentation of student stipends, enforcement of 100% attendance, the introduction of modern admission procedures for the upcoming year, among others.
Furthermore, the Shura emphasised the continuation of Darul Uloom’s online fatwa delivery system. Expressing concern over a notice issued by the The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) to Darul Uloom, and the directives received by Maulana Mufti Abul Qasim Naumani of Darul Uloom from the district magistrate senior police officials, the Shura members voiced their satisfaction with the reply sent to them. They clarified that any administrative or government action in this regard would prompt Darul Uloom Deoband to seek legal recourse.
Maulana Qasim Nomani outlined the unanimous decisions made on various important issues concerning the institution’s construction and development, promotion of teachers and enhancement of student awards. Among the attendees at the meeting were prominent figures such as Maulana Syed Arshad Madani, Maulana Mahmood Madani, Maulana Muhammad Aqil Saharanpuri, Maulana Badruddin Ajmal, Maulana Abdul Aleem Farooqui, and others.
With unanimous decisions taken and a firm stance on legal action, the Shura meeting signifies the institution’s commitment to upholding its principles and safeguarding its interests amidst ongoing challenges.
