NEW DELHI — In a world filled with distractions, 17-year-old Hafiz Muhammad Rafi stands out as a beacon of focus and determination. His remarkable journey intertwines academic excellence with a deep commitment to his faith, portraying a harmonious blend of religious devotion and worldly aspirations.

Raised in a devout household in an area near Mumbai’s Faras Road, Hafiz Rafi’s upbringing was imbued with a reverence for the Qur’an. Following the demise of his younger brother, who displayed a remarkable inclination towards Qur’anic studies, Hafiz Rafi embraced the responsibility of becoming a Hafiz himself, honouring his family’s aspirations.

“When the concern of the parents, the responsibility of the teacher, and the passion of the child come together, then a Hafiz is prepared,” reflects Hafiz Rafi, acknowledging the pivotal role of familial support and dedicated mentorship in his journey. He credits the nurturing environment of Deenyat Maktab Dudhwala Complex for providing him with a solid foundation in Qur’anic education, facilitating his memorisation of the Holy Book.

Hafiz Rafi’s educational journey took a dynamic turn when he enrolled in Muhammad Haji Sabu Siddique Technical High School, Madanpura. Despite the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns, he persevered in his Qur’anic memorisation, utilising online resources to continue his studies. His steadfast commitment bore fruit as he not only excelled in his 10th-grade board exams but also attained the prestigious certificate of Qur’an memorisation in the same year, a testament to his unwavering dedication.

Beyond academic achievements, Hafiz Rafi actively contributes to his community, assuming leadership roles in mosque activities and Taraweeh (special night prayers during Ramadan). His involvement in mosque duties not only instilled self-confidence but also served as a source of spiritual fulfillment.

Embracing the wisdom of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Hafiz Rafi embarked on a parallel journey of vocational training alongside his academic pursuits. Under the guidance of his uncle, Ansar Sheikh, he commenced a 3-year ‘structural fitter course’ apprenticeship, recognising the value of practical skills alongside theoretical knowledge.

In a message to today’s youth, Hafiz Rafi advocates for a holistic approach to education, urging fellow youngsters to prioritise learning and contribute meaningfully to society. He emphasises the importance of bridging the gap between education and national service, echoing the sentiment that a nation’s progress hinges on the educational empowerment of its youth.

As Hafiz Rafi continues to navigate his dual path of academic pursuit and spiritual growth, he serves as an inspiration to aspiring scholars and devout individuals alike, embodying the ethos of balance and dedication in pursuit of excellence.
