Four Youths Returning from Namaz Waylaid and Assaulted in UP’s Aligarh

FIR registered, raids to arrest the accused underway, as two injured youths battle serious injuries in the hospital

NEW DELHI/ALIGARH – Four Muslim youths were injured, two of them critically, after they were allegedly attacked by a group of men while returning home after offering namaz in Aligarh’s Shahjamal area, according to police and family members.

The incident occurred recently in the Telipada locality, under the Rorawar police station area. Relatives said the youths were heading back peacefully from the mosque when they were surrounded and beaten by a group of around a dozen attackers armed with sticks.

The injured were first taken to Malkhan Singh District Hospital, where doctors treated them for serious injuries. Two of the victims were later referred to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital after doctors found their condition critical.

Police have registered a case and launched a search operation to arrest those involved.

Locals said the incident began with an argument between two groups in the neighbourhood soon after the youths left the mosque.

According to witnesses, the dispute was taken to the police station, where both sides reportedly reached a compromise.

However, families say the matter did not end there.

Relatives allege that the accused later waited for the youths and attacked them again while they were on their way home.

A resident of the area said, “There was an argument earlier and the matter even went to the police station. But later, the boys were surrounded and beaten when they were returning home.”

The father of one of the injured youths said his son and his friends had gone to offer namaz and were returning home when they were attacked.

He said the matter had already been settled at the police station before the assault took place.

The father said, “My children had gone to offer namaz. After the prayers, there was a dispute between two groups, but everyone went to the police station and the matter was settled.”

He added, “Later, the accused surrounded them on the road and started beating them. My children were badly injured.”

Family members described the second attack as sudden and unprovoked, saying the youths were not expecting any violence after the earlier compromise.

According to the complaint filed by the family, the attackers include Parvez, Salim and Anas, along with several others.

Relatives claim around a dozen people were involved in the assault.

Doctors at Malkhan Singh District Hospital confirmed that four young men were brought in with injuries after the attack.

A family member said one of the victims remains in a critical condition.

The victim’s father said, “My son’s condition is very serious. Doctors have sent him to the medical college for better treatment. We are waiting for good news about his recovery.”

Family members said the injured youths are still under medical care and the families are deeply worried.

Police said they received a complaint soon after the incident and registered an FIR under relevant sections of the law.

Officers from Rorawar police station visited the spot and began investigating the case.

Police said the accused have left their homes and are currently being searched for.

A police officer said, “A case has been registered based on the complaint. A team has been formed to arrest the accused and raids are being conducted.”

The officer added, “No guilty person will be spared. Action will be taken against everyone involved in the assault.”

Investigators are also recording statements of witnesses and examining the events that led to the attack.

The assault has caused concern in the Shahjamal area, where residents say the situation escalated quickly from a settled dispute to serious violence.

Several people in the locality have called for strict action against the attackers.

A resident said, “The argument had already been resolved at the police station. What happened later should not have happened. Those responsible must be punished.”

Families of the injured youths said they are hoping for justice and the arrest of all those involved.

Officials said they are keeping a close watch on the situation in the area to maintain peace and prevent further trouble.

Aligarh has seen occasional local disputes and clashes in recent years, though police said the present case appears to have started as a neighbourhood argument that turned violent later.

For now, the injured youths remain in hospital while their families wait for their recovery and for those responsible for the attack to be brought before the law.
