Successful aspirants set to become civil judges after rigorous selection process

MUMBAI – Five Muslim candidates have achieved success in the highly competitive Civil Judges (Junior Division) Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Examination 2022, bringing pride to their communities and the nation. The long-awaited provisional selection list announced recently includes 114 successful candidates, with these five securing impressive ranks.
Sheikh Tanveer Rehman clinched the 5th rank, followed by Shumaila Sadaf Sohail Ahmed at 19th, Malani Ashfaq Shahjahan at 23rd, Sheikh Shireen Lala at 32nd, and Uzair Ahmed Sheikh Naseer Ahmed at 73rd.
The Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) advertised the vacancies in 2022, attracting thousands of applicants. The selection process comprised three stages: a preliminary exam, mains, and interviews. Over 12,000 candidates appeared for the prelims, with 1,150 qualifying for the mains. From these, 350 were shortlisted for interviews held on 29th March 2025, culminating in the final selection of 114 candidates.
Sheikh Tanveer Rehman, who secured 5th rank, said: “This achievement is a result of relentless hard work and the support of my family. I hope to serve justice with integrity.”
Shumaila Sadaf Sohail Ahmed, ranked 19th, shared: “Breaking barriers in a competitive field like law is challenging but immensely rewarding. This is just the beginning.”
The selected candidates will undergo training before their formal appointment as Judicial Magistrates (Junior Division). Legal experts have praised the diversity in this year’s selections, calling it a positive step toward inclusive representation in the judiciary.
A senior MPSC official stated: “The examination process ensures meritocracy, and we congratulate all successful candidates for their dedication.”
The final list has been published, with postings expected after the completion of training.
