NEW DELHI — A group of men beat a Dalit man to death over his love affairs in Rajasthan’s Hanumangarh district, news reports citing police said on saturday.

The victim Jagdish was ruthlessly beaten by sticks which led to his death. A police official told Clarion India that Jagdish had an alleged love affair with the wife of the family of one accused.

A chilling video of the assault has surfaced on social media showing the victim being gripped by his head and legs, lying on ground, while he is being thrashed with full force. He pleads for mercy but they do not budge.

The accused then threw his body outside his house. The family of the deceased have refused to take body, demanding action against the culprits and also compensation. The SDM of the area Ranjit Kumar Saturday convinced the family to take the body of the deceased for cremation.

An FIR was filed has been under several sections of IPC including 302 (murder), 365 (abduction), 147 ( rioting), 149 (mob) 120-B (common intention) and sections of SC/AT Act. “It names 11 people out of which five people including a juvenile have been arrested,” said the police official, adding that investigation is going on.

Meanwhile, leaders from Bharatiya Janata Party, the opposition in Rajasthan, have lashed out at the ruling Congress saying that attacks against Dalits in the state were rising. The BJP supporters led by Pilibanga MLA Dharmendra Mochi joined the family who were on a sit-in outside Pilibanga hospital.

“Rahul ji, don’t worry about Lakhimpur where Yogi ji has his governance and not your dear Gehlot ji. Show some courage to speak about the murder of dalit youth in Prempura of Rajasthan so that people get to know how truthful you are?” Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said in a tweet in Hindi.
