Fear and Anger Grip UP’s Muzaffarnagar After Brutal Mob Attack on Muslim Youth

Date:

The attack is seen as a stark reminder of the growing insecurity faced by Muslims in the BJP-ruled state, where hate crimes and mob violence have become increasingly common

MUZAFFARNAGAR — A disturbing incident of mob violence has left a Muslim youth fighting for his life in Barla village in the Uttar Pradesh district of Muzaffarnagar. On August 21, Fardeen was brutally assaulted by a group of over ten men who allegedly targeted him due to his religious identity. The attackers used sharp objects and hurled derogatory slurs, including “katua,” a term often used to insult Muslims.

Fardeen claims that the attack was motivated solely by his religious identity. “They attacked me with sharp objects and abused me,” Fardeen was quoted by media reports as saying on Friday.

Local accounts suggest the attack was sudden and coordinated, leaving the young man gravely injured before passersby intervened. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors have described his condition as serious.

The incident has sparked widespread fear and anger among the local Muslim community, with many demanding swift police action to ensure their safety and security. The attack is seen as a stark reminder of the growing insecurity faced by Muslims in the state ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), where hate crimes and mob violence have become increasingly common.

Despite the severity of the attack, the local police have remained unresponsive to queries from journalists, sparking criticism of negligence and indifference. Community leaders and activists have condemned the assault, calling for immediate action to identify and prosecute the perpetrators.

The incident adds to growing concerns over religiously motivated assaults in Uttar Pradesh, where reports of mob violence against minorities have repeatedly surfaced in recent years. Rights groups warn that police inaction only emboldens perpetrators and deepens the sense of insecurity among vulnerable communities.

As Fardeen continues to battle for his life, his family has appealed for immediate action, medical support, and accountability from local authorities. The incident highlights the need for urgent measures to address the growing sense of insecurity among Muslims in the region and ensure justice for victims of hate crimes.
