WASHINGTON — United States President Donald Trump has suggested that Israel’s war on Gaza should end, stating that he expects the war to conclude within two to three days, a claim that US officials have echoed for months, even as they provided Israel with billions of dollars in weapons and diplomatic support to cover the genocide.
“I think within the next two to three weeks, you’re going to have pretty good, conclusive ending,” Trump told reporters on Monday.
US officials have been suggesting for months that the war, which Washington helps fund, would end soon.
In February 2024, then-President Joe Biden said, while eating an ice cream, that a ceasefire deal was “close” and that he hoped it would be finalized within days.
Since then, US officials have been regularly saying that an end to the war is in sight.
Trump’s envoy, Steve Witkoff, said in July that the US administration is “hope-ful” a ceasefire would be reached by the end of the week.
The US has provided Israel with billions of dollars and diplomatic backing to cover the assault on Gaza, which rights groups and UN experts describe as a genocide.
Since launching his election campaign in October 2024, Trump has repeatedly made public statements predicting that Israel’s war on Gaza would end within “weeks” or “months.”
None of these promises have been fulfilled. Meanwhile, Israel has used the time to continue its bombing and destruction, while Western media have consistently promoted the narrative that a ceasefire deal was “close.”
The most notable deadline Trump set was:
December 2, 2024:
Trump: “There will be all hell to pay” if the captives are not released before his inauguration.
Outcome: The deadline (January 20, 2025) passed without ending the war.
October–November 2024: (Election Campaign Period)
Trump: He repeatedly called for the war to end quickly, hinting that it should be “wrapped up” by his inauguration or within a few months.
Outcome: After the inauguration, the war persisted
January 15, 2025:
Trump: He declared he would use the momentum of a temporary ceasefire deal to secure a “quick ending” to the war.
Outcome: A short-lived truce took place, but Israeli bombardments soon resumed after violating the ceasefire.
June 27, 2025:
Trump: “We think within the next week we’re going to get a ceasefire.”
Outcome: No lasting ceasefire was achieved; Israeli assault on Gaza continues.
August 25, 2025:
Trump: “I think within the next two to three weeks you’re going to have a pretty good, conclusive ending.”
Outcome: As of today (August 27, 2025), bombardment continues, and no “conclusive ending” has occurred.
