NEW DELHI — Left parties, activists, students and concerned citizens held a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Saturday, demanding an immediate end to the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

The protesters saluted the steadfastness of the people of Gaza and the whole of Palestine in the face of war crimes, massacres and brutality by Israeli forces.

Addressing the protesters, Sitaram Yechuri, general secretary of Communist Party of India (Marxist), said that what is happening in Gaza is not a war. War is fought between two armies who carry weapons. But in Gaza, there is an on sided attack on unarmed civilians.

“This is not acceptable at all. It is not acceptable to the world. It is not acceptable to us,” said Yeachuri while citing the orders delivered by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for war crimes.

He pointed out that the case of Palestine, who were driven out of their land and homes, is a 100-year-old issue of imperialism. During the Nakba, tens of thousands were killed. Even in this war, around 40000 people were killed while hundreds are in debris.

Yechuri also slammed the Narendra Modi government for supporting the Israeli government and following its line. He reminded the government that India has always been a supporter of Palestine. “Even, Indian passports used to have mentioned that it is not valid for Israel and South Africa,” he said.

He demanded that the Indian government must cut off all ties and trade with Israel immediately.

Dhananjay, JNU Students Union President and AISA activist said, “All voices in the world advocating peace, must speak up against the imperialist war of Israel over Palestine and demand an immediate ceasefire! We have seen in Rafah, that despite the order from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to halt the offensive, Israeli forces deliberately continued its brutal massacres by bombing civilian tents.”

The protesters called upon the Indian government to revoke all military-economic ties with apartheid Israel and ensure an international arms embargo against the country for its genocidal war against Palestinians.

“The support provided to this genocide through funding and supply of arms by the US and right-wing governments across the west, as well as India, is alarming. We demand for an immediate end to all ties with the apartheid Israel!,” said AISA Delhi State President Abhigyan.

At least 36,379 Palestinians have been killed and 82,407 wounded in Israel’s war on Gaza since October 7.
