NEW DELHI – Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is imminent, ministers in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government have said.

Atishi Singh, Minister of Education, PWD and Culture and Tourism; and Saurabh Bhardwaj, Minister of Health, Urban Development and Water, in their posts cited unnamed sources said the arrest would take place soon.

The speculation arose as Kejriwal skipped the ED’s summons related to the Delhi Excise Policy case.

Atishi took to social media, stating, “News coming in that ED is going to raid @ArvindKejriwal’s residence tomorrow morning. Arrest likely.”

Health Minister Bharadwaj echoed the sentiment, saying, “It is heard that tomorrow morning, ED is going to reach the house of Chief Minister Kejriwal and arrest him.”

These claims follow Kejriwal’s third summons by the ED, issued on December 22, asking him to appear on January 3 in connection with the alleged Delhi liquor scam case.

Kejriwal, in his reply, expressed readiness to cooperate but deemed the notice “illegal.” He questioned its timing, suggesting it might be a move to hinder his election campaign for the 2024 parliamentary elections.

Earlier, Kejriwal ignored the first summons on November 2, labeling it as “vague, motivated, and unsustainable in law,” alleging political motivations. The AAP raised concerns about the timing of the notice just before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
