AZAMGARH – The inaugural Shibli Award was bestowed on Dr. Muhammad Ilyas-ul-Azmi at an impressive function here on Monday evening.
Prominent scholar and former chief of the Delhi Minority Commission honoured Dr. Al-Azmi with the award at an Darul Musannefin Shibli Academy event here in the presence of a large number of distinguished personalities.
The award recognises Dr. Al-Azmi’s significant contributions to Shibliyat studies.
Maulana Umair-Siddique Dariyabadi Nadvi, Senior Fellow Darul Musannefin Shibli Academy, moderated the event which was presided over by the Director of Darul Musannefin. The event began with recitation of some verses of the Noble Qur’an by Hafiz Abdul Rahman Qamar Abbasi.
Fellow of Daralul Musannefin Kaleem Sifat Islahi provided an in-depth introduction to Dr. Al-Azmi’s work, noting the historic nature of the award. “This is the first time in the history of Darul Musannefin that a scholar has been honoured with this kind of award. It is hoped that this initiative will be replicated in Urdu circles across the country,” he said.
Dr. Al-Azmi expressed his gratitude to Darul Musannefin and said he began the work on Shibliyat during his student days. “Reading Ghalib and Iqbal, I found that Shibli’s comprehensive personality was overlooked in the literary circles. I resolved to bring Shibliyat into focus from various dimensions, and today, I see the fruits of that labour,” he said.
Dr. Fakhrul Islam Azmi lauded Dr. Al-Azmi’s dedication, calling his life an exemplary model for the youth. He also prayed for his continued success. The programme’s president concluded by thanking Dr. Al-Azmi for accepting the honour and emphasised the ongoing mission inspired by Shibli. “The mission that Shibli has drawn attention to will, God willing, continue to be pursued,” he said.
