Doval’s ‘Revenge Over History’ Rhetoric Reflects Communal Mindset: Mehbooba

Mehbooba Mufti said such provocative statements reflect the Hindutva-driven mindset of the present Indian dispensation, which is bent upon normalising hatred and violence against minorities, particularly Muslims.

SRINAGAR — Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti has termed Indian National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval’s remarks about “avenging history” as deeply unfortunate, saying such statements are meant to stoke communal hatred and target Muslims.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Mehbooba Mufti, in a post on social media platform X, said it was regrettable that a person holding such a sensitive position, whose duty is to safeguard India from internal and external threats, had chosen to echo a communal ideology of hate instead of promoting harmony.

She was reacting to Ajit Doval’s address at the opening ceremony of the “Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue” in New Delhi in which he said that India must strengthen itself militarily, economically and socially to “avenge painful historical events” — a thinly veiled reference to the Muslim rule in India, hostility toward Indian Muslims and the creation of Pakistan on the basis of the Two-Nation Theory.

The PDP president said that calling for revenge in the 21st century over centuries-old events was nothing but a dog whistle intended to incite poor and uneducated youth against an already vulnerable Muslim minority.

Mehbooba Mufti said such provocative statements reflect the Hindutva-driven mindset of the present Indian dispensation, which is bent upon normalising hatred and violence against minorities, particularly Muslims.
