NEW DELHI – Since Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a sudden and complete lockdown of the country in the context of the Covid spread, large numbers of daily wagers, labourers and others got stranded at their workplaces. As many started walking long distances to reach their homes, those who remained where they were are going hungry in the absence of food and ration supplies.
Many are desperately tweeting about the ordeal to the respective chief ministers along with their contact numbers and addresses. Bihar’s opposition leader Tejashvi Yadav has also been tweeting, tagging the respective chief ministers and other authorities, urging them to reach out to the migrant labourers from Bihar left hungry in other states.
Tagging to the chief minister of Himachal Pradesh Jairam Thakur, Yadav said that 17 labourers from Bihar were stranded in the Fagili labour hostel in Uttarakhand, and urged him to send them relief.

Tagging the chief minister of West Bengal Mamata Banergee, he said that 15 migrant workers were stranded in Kolkata and in need of food.

To Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher, Yadav said around 200 migrant workers of Bihar were stranded in Chandigarh and required help.

He told Telangana minister KT Rama Rao that a set of migrant workers were stranded in Hyderabad and waiting for support.

To Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, Yadav said around 80 of Bihar’s residents are stranded in Delhi areas and urgently required food and shelter.

Yadav tagged Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Punjab chief minister Amrinder Singh, Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot, Tamil Nadu chief minister Eddapaddi Palaniswami, Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani and others about the labourers from Bihar who got stranded in these states. Yadav’s timeline is full of such desperate tweets about stranded labour. Some of his tweets got swift response from the concerned local authority. He also put out a helpline number for the stranded labourers.

There were others too who tweeted the chief ministers about the stranded people. NDTV journalist Vishnu Som tweeted to Delhi CM Kejriwal about the poor people in dire need of food.
