LUCKNOW — Samajwadi Party chief and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav on Friday expressed deep concern on the present situation in Ayodhya and Faizabad as saffron groups including BJP and Shiv Sena are reportedly gathering lakhs of people there in the coming days to vow for a Ram temple. He urged the Supreme Court of India to take suo motu notice of the situation.

Talking to press here, Akhilesh said that people of BJP can go to any extent as they don’t have faith in Supreme Court and the top court should take notice of the current situation and order deployment of Army to maintain peace and protect life of people.

“We are of the view that the Supreme Court is the top court of the country. The issue (Babri Masjid-Ram Mandir) is pending there. All parties to the case are awaiting the Supreme Court verdict. They will respect it. But I can say that BJP people have no faith in Supreme Court nor in the Constitution,” he said.

“BJP can go to any extent for its interests. I think that given the atmosphere in Uttar Pradesh, particularly in Ayodhya and Faizabad, the Supreme Court should take serious notice of it. If needed it should deploy Army there to maintain peace and protect the life of people because BJP people and its allies can go to any extent,” said Akhilesh.

He has made statement after Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut’s controversial remarks earlier in the day in Ayodhya regarding demolition of the Babri Masjid.

“We demolished the Babri Masjid in 17 minutes but for paper work why it is taking so much time…for drafting a law or ordinance (for construction of Ram Temple),” he told reporters here.

On November 25, saffron groups are gathering lakhs of people in Ayodhya. Shiv Sena chief Udhav Thackeray is also reaching there.

The title suit of Babri Masjid is pending in the Supreme Court and hearing will resume in January 2019. In 2010, the Allahabad High Court had ordered trifurcation of the Babri land among Waqf Board, Nirmohi Akhada and Ram Lalla. The 16th century mosque was locked in 1949 following installation of some Hindu idols in it. It was demolished by massive Hindutva mob on December 6, 1992 in the presence of top leaders of BJP even though the Supreme Court had ordered the protection of the mosque.
