NEW DELHI — A large number of residents and local leaders, including Congress workers, have begun protesting against the Municipal Corporation’s proposed demolition drive in the Shaheen Bagh area of the national capital on Monday as teams of Delhi Police, along with para military force, have arrived to help Municipal Corporation to begin its ‘anti-encroachment’ drive.

The Police personnel could be seen forcefully removing the agitators who were protesting in front of the JCB bulldozer. The agitators also included women who were removed by the women security personnel.

As per reports, the party leaders have sat in front of the JCB bulldozer. “This is a bulldozer of hatred. It is completely unconstitutional. We will not let this demolition happen,” a party leader said.

Another person questioned MC’s intention behind the move. “You [BJP] have been ruling MC for the past 15 years. What happened suddenly?,” the protester asked.

People were seen standing atop the part of the JCB bulldozer.

The Municipal Corporation officials are also on the spot.

The officials were seen wearing a red band or a red thread on their arms so that they can be identified as MC officials if the situation turns volatile.

According to reports, the JCB bulldozer has started moving forward tearing apart the wall of protesters.

Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party MLA Amanatullah Khan reached the spot and was seen speaking to the officials. “Where is encroachment? I have myself removed all the encroachments 2-3 days back,” MLA Khan said.

As per the latest report and eye witnesses, several people, including political party workers have been detained by Delhi Police for staging a ‘dharna’ and blocking the bulldozers on the site.

The personnel forcefully removed the agitators which sat in front of the JCB bulldozer.
