Delhi Polls: Early Trends Show BJP Taking Lead, AAP Narrows Gap

NEW DELHI — The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is on track to regain control of the Delhi Assembly after a 27-year hiatus, with early trends indicating a substantial lead over the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

After racing ahead in early trends, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) managed to retain its lead after most rounds of counting and was leading in 43 constituencies, while had registered four wins, according to data by the Election Commission.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) narrowed gap briefly, however, was leading in 21 seats, much below the majority mark of 36, and has logged two official wins.

AAP veteran and former deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia conceded defeat from Jangpura while party supremo Arvind Kejriwal stared at possible loss from New Delhi.

Counting of votes for the Delhi assembly election 2025 began at 8 am, with the top contenders Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) hoping to form government in the capital city.

The voting for the Delhi Assembly Elections 2025 concluded on February 5 with an overall voter turnout of 60.39%.

The highest voter turnout was in Mustafabad (69%). Lowest was in Karol Bagh (47.40%). Most exit polls on Wednesday predicted an edge for the BJP over the ruling AAP in the Delhi assembly polls, while the Congress was projected to make no significant gains. — With inputs from agencies
