CCTV captures the chase; fear is rising as complainant Abdul Bari reports no arrests, names four suspects, and plans a fresh court move
NEW DELHI — A reported attack on a resident in Delhi’s Tri Nagar area has raised fresh concerns about safety and policing, after a dispute linked to the keeping of pigs escalated into violence. The incident involves Abdul Bari, who says he was chased and attacked by a group of men, an episode that was captured on CCTV.
According to Abdul Bari, the attack took place at night a couple of days ago. He said four young men from the same locality approached him and tried to assault him. “They came running towards me with clear intent to harm. I had no option but to run for my life,” he said.
CCTV footage, now circulating on social media, appears to show a group chasing a man through a narrow lane. Residents claim the visuals support the allegation that the attack was planned. Abdul Bari said he managed to escape by rushing into his house and shutting the gate. “If I had not closed the gate in time, something serious could have happened,” he added.
The dispute is said to have begun earlier, when tensions rose over pigs being kept in the area. Some residents allege that the issue was used to create division in the neighbourhood. They claim that after a pig was found dead, blame was placed on Muslim families, which worsened the situation.
Abdul Bari is among those who had approached the court seeking protection and intervention. He confirmed that police personnel had been assigned for his security following a court order. “Police are deployed and they do cooperate, but even then, this attack happened. That is what worries me,” he said.
He further stated that he has identified the alleged attackers and shared their names with the police. “I have given all the details. They are from the same area. Still, no action has been taken,” he claimed.
Locals expressed concern about the delay. One neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said, “There is fear in the area. People are worried because this is not the first incident. If there is CCTV, then action should be quick.”
Another resident said, “We just want peace. But these repeated incidents are creating tension among communities.”
Abdul Bari also referred to a previous incident involving another petitioner, Asgar Imam. He alleged that Asgar Imam was also targeted. “There was an attempt to attack him with sticks. That video is also there. But no strong action followed,” he said.
Police have not yet issued a detailed public statement on the specific allegations. However, officials have previously said that they respond based on complaints and available evidence. It is not clear at this stage whether an FIR has been registered in connection with the latest incident or what steps have been taken in the investigation.
The matter has gained attention as questions are being raised about law and order in the locality. Some residents believe that repeated disputes are affecting daily life. “Children and families are scared. We avoid going out late at night now,” said a shopkeeper.
Abdul Bari said he plans to return to court seeking stronger action. “I will again approach the court. I want strict action against those involved so that such incidents do not happen again,” he said.
The incident, which reportedly occurred on 14 April, has left many in the area uneasy. While investigations are expected to continue, residents say timely and fair action will be important to restore a sense of security.
