NEW DELHI: The Delhi Minorities Commission has issued a notice to the police over the distribution of trishuls (tridents) by a Hindutva outfit in the National Capital. The tridents were distributed after hateful and provocative speeches allegedly by members of a saffron outfit named “Hindu United Front” at two separate events earlier this month in Delhi.
On 1st July, the group had distributed 251 trishuls in Sonia Vihar area. Then on 15th July, it distributed 371 trishuls on Gokalpur Nahar Road in East Delhi. It has a plan to distribute one lakh more trishuls in the city.
“This outfit, which operates from B-437 Mukhya Chowk, Shahdra, is planning to distribute one lakh trishuls in the near future. All this activity takes place in the open on public land amid hate-filled speeches promoting hate and violence in society,” said the minority panel in its notice.
It has issued a notice to DCP Shahdra to enquire about this activity, take legal action and file a report with the Commission.
While Lok Sabha elections across the country including Delhi are due in early 2019, Delhi Assembly polls will be held in 2020. In the 2015 Assembly polls, the Aam Aadmi Party had reduced Congress to zero and BJP to just three seats.
