BHOPAL – A shocking incident of caste-based violence has emerged from Chhatarpur district in Madhya Pradesh. A Dalit youth was held hostage and brutally beaten up by a group of men. The attack occurred on 21st June, as the victim was heading home on foot after closing his restaurant. He was kidnapped at gunpoint by three to four assailants, who took him to a secluded area and assaulted him for about an hour.

According to reports, the accused beat the youth with belts, kicked and punched him. One of the accused even filmed the assault and later made the video viral. The attackers also threatened the youth against reporting the incident to the police. The victim suffered severe injuries, including a deep head wound, and was left in a pool of blood.

After the assailants left the scene, the victim managed to call for an ambulance and was taken to the district hospital for treatment. The police were informed, and a case was registered against the attackers. The victim described the incident to the doctors and authorities, leading to a swift police response.

The incident took place near the culvert on Phula Devi Marg, close to Sarani Darwaza in Chhatarpur city around 8 pm. The video surfaced the following day, showing the attackers stripping the victim, burning him with cigarettes, and continuing their assault with belts and punches.

Chhatarpur police quickly formed a joint team to apprehend the suspects. Deva, Lucky, and Annu were arrested. The police also detained a 17-year-old minor involved in the attack.

Kotwali police station in-charge Arvind Kujur confirmed the arrests, stating, “We have arrested all the accused. They wanted to create terror in the area.”

Chhatarpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Agam Jain provided further details, noting the criminal background of the suspects. “The accused are of criminal nature. Criminal cases like assault and intimidation have been registered against them in the past as well. Except for the minor, cases of attempt to murder, possession of illegal weapons, assault, and intimidation are registered against the other accused. Further action is being taken,” he said.
