Govt urged to rein in hate-mongers who are spreading hatred among different communities
NEW DELHI — The CPI (M) has strongly objected to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s second straight absence from Thursday’s all-party meeting convened by the Centre in the wake of Operation Sindoor. The prime minister was also absent from the meeting held in response to the Pahalgam attack.
The Left party also called for a special session of parliament to discuss the crucial security issues. It also urged the government to rein in hate-mongers who are spreading hatred among different communities.
John Brittas, a Rajya Sabha MP and party leader, represented the CPI(M) at the all-party meeting.
The MP from Kerala regretted the second consecutive absence of the prime minister from important meetings.
In the context of the government’s claim that the “intended objectives of the operation are achieved”, Brittas pointed out that, given past experience, it is doubtful that such military action will be able to target and eliminate terror groups. He emphasised that the government should continue pursuing diplomatic actions and build international pressure on Pakistan to bring the terrorists to book.
The government, he said, should also see that the situation does not escalate further.
He urged the government to ensure the protection of the people in the border areas and provide all required assistance to those affected by the situation. He asked the government to place all the facts before the people and counter the spread of all kinds of misinformation.
Brittas also stated that the government has to curb the spread of hate and underlined that terror has no religion. War against terrorism cannot be conducted without fighting the spread of hate, he said.
The lawmaker lauded the people of Pahalgam and Kashmir for showing the path to the entire country by unitedly condemning terrorism. He demanded that the government lead an all-party delegation to Kashmir at an appropriate time to stand by the suffering people there.
