NEW DELHI — The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Friday strongly condemned Israel’s military assault on Iran, calling for an immediate halt to what it described as unprovoked aggression. The party labelled Israel a “rogue state” and accused it of repeatedly violating international law with impunity.
In a strogly worded statement, the CPI(M) said the attack underscores Israel’s pattern of launching strikes across West Asia at will, aiming to assert its regional dominance. It pointed out that the strikes — which have killed senior Iranian nuclear scientists, generals, and civilians — appear to have been meticulously premeditated, with Israeli officials hinting at months of planning.
The party stressed that such an extensive operation could not have occurred without the support — either overt or tacit — of the United States. Without that backing, it said, Israel would lack the capability and confidence to undertake such military aggression.
It is a well-known fact that Israel possesses nuclear weapons and seeks to prevent other countries in the region from developing nuclear technology, even for peaceful purposes. This attack, occurring amidst ongoing negotiations with Iran on nuclear issues, is likely to spark a broader regional conflict and plunge West Asia into deeper instability. For the past 20 months, Israel has been carrying out a genocidal war against Palestine. Now, with this attack on Iran, it is clear that Israel seeks to eliminate any potential challenge to its dominance in the region.
The party urged the international community led by the United Nations to intervene without delay to restrain Israel’s aggression. It also asked that the Government of India must add its voice to the global condemnation of this attack and actively urge Israel to cease its military operations immediately.
The party also slammed the Indian government for abstaining from a recent UN General Assembly vote in support of Palestine, arguing that such actions only serve to embolden Israel to continue aggression in the region.
“India has historically maintained strong ties with both Iran and Palestine,” the party said, urging the BJP-led government to abandon its tacit support for Israel and instead take a principled stand for peace and justice in the region.
