The Left party’s protest in Mau urges the government to initiate immediate action to curb rising crimes in the state
MAU — The Communist Party of India-Marxist CPI(M), on Friday, staged a protest at the Mau Collectorate to highlight the alarming rise in crimes targeting Dalits, women, and minorities in Uttar Pradesh. The demonstration was attended by dozens of party members, who expressed their grave concerns about the worsening law and order situation in the state.
The protesters submitted a memorandum to the President through the District Magistrate, calling for immediate action to address the growing violence. CPI(M) Secretary Abdul Azim, in his speech, condemned the recent spate of incidents that have shaken the state, pointing to several brutal attacks.
“We are witnessing an alarming rise in crimes against Dalits, minorities, and women in Uttar Pradesh,” said Azim. He cited several horrific cases, including the murder and burning of a Dalit youth in Karchana, Allahabad, and a similar incident in Najibabad, Bijnor, where a Dalit youth was burnt alive. Furthermore, Azim mentioned the murders of Dalit youths in Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, and Banaras, adding that the situation was rapidly deteriorating.
Party leaders emphasised the need for an immediate overhaul of the legal system to address the issue. “The current environment in the country is not conducive for women and minorities to feel safe. This is not the kind of situation we expect in a democratic system,” they said. They also highlighted the role of divisive politics, with some groups allegedly exploiting religious sentiments to fuel hatred and violence.
The CPI(M) has called on the state and central governments to act swiftly to curb the growing crimes and ensure the safety and security of Dalits, women, and minorities. “The government must take immediate steps to improve the legal framework and provide protection to vulnerable sections of society,” Azim urged.
The protest reflects the party’s continued stance against the politics of hatred and its demand for stronger action to safeguard the rights and dignity of marginalised communities in Uttar Pradesh.
