The party’s polit bureau asks the Union government to pressure Israel to halt its aggression

NEW DELHI – Expressing its deep anguish at the continuing Israeli aggression on Gaza, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has demanded an immediate end to Israeli attacks and enforcement of a ceasefire. It also urged the government of India to exert pressure on Israel to stop its genocidal attacks.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, the Polit Bureau of CPI(M), in April 2025 alone, 2,037 Palestinians were killed in Israeli air and ground attacks. In the last two days, more than 200 Palestinians lost their lives. Since October 7, 2023, a total of 53,384 Palestinians were killed, 94 per cent of whom were civilians – 51 per cent children, 16 per cent women, and 8 per cent elderly.

“After denying the entry of aid trucks for more than two months, Israel has permitted only nominal aid to enter Gaza. As a result, we see extreme levels of starvation. Encouraged by US support, Israel is now talking about occupying the entire Gaza Strip,” the statement said.

The CPI(M) said that the BJP-led government should exert pressure on Israel to stop its genocidal attacks. It should join the demand to try its leaders for war crimes and genocide.

The CPI(M) has consistently condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza, describing them as “genocidal attacks” and “massacre”. On several occasions, it has expressed solidarity with the Palestinian people, demanding an immediate ceasefire and peace settlement. The party has also criticised the Union government’s stance, accusing it of appeasing Israel and toeing the US line.

The party has also organised protests and demonstrations across the country, including in states like Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, to show solidarity with the Palestinians.
