NEW DELHI – Two Muslim drivers were subjected to severe physical abuse by cow vigilantes in Haryana at the weekend. The poor and hapless men, accused of smuggling cows, were also forced to raise Hindutva slogans by the marauding group.

HindutwaWatch, a research initiative that monitors reports of attacks on members of religious minorities in the country, shared the disturbing video of the incident on its X (formerly Twitter) platform on Monday.

The one-minute and four second video shows the Muslim drivers being forcefully pulled out of their rickshaw and subjected to severe thrashing. The attackers can be heard raising slogans in praise of Lord Ram and throwing epithets at the women family members of the victims.

The video shows the nose of one of the victims bleeding profusely. The attackers were shown coercing the victims into making derogatory statements against Muslims.

Freelance journalist Ashraf Fahim, among others, shared the video, drawing attention to the alarming incident.

The video has sparked outrage on social media, prompting concerns about rising incidents of violence and intolerance. Authorities are yet to confirm the authenticity of the video and investigate the incident further.

As the nation grapples with this distressing incident, calls for justice and communal harmony have grown louder, emphasising the need for a thorough investigation to ensure accountability for those responsible. The incident raises questions about the safety of individuals and highlights the importance of promoting tolerance and understanding in society.
