BHIND – Congress leaders led by former chief minister and Rajya Sabha MP Digvijay Singh on Friday held a massive rally demanding the registration of an FIR against Bhind District Magistrate Sanjeev Srivastav for giving religious basis to demolish houses belonging to three accused in a murder case.

According to a complaint filed by the Congress, at Srivastav’s direction, the administration bulldozed the houses of the three accused because of their Muslim identity. The complaint pointed out that the administration refused to bulldoze the house of an accused in another similar case because he was not a Muslim.

The officials, the complaint said, also looted valuable items and cash from the bulldozed houses.

After the houses were bulldozed, Srivastav was asked why he adopted the extreme measure and did not take similar steps in a separate but almost identical case he cited a Hindu-Muslim basis for demolishing houses.

In the complaint, the Congress leaders said that this Hindu-Muslim explanation of demolishing houses is a conspiracy to disturb communal harmony. “This has increased the possibility of causing riots between two communities,” noted the complaint.

“I’m surprised that an IAS officer is demolishing the houses of the accused with a Hindu-Muslim angle. He has damaged the dignity of his post by not acting as per the law of the land,” noted the complaint.

Congress leaders filed the complaint at the Dehat police station urging the filing of an FIR under BNS sections of152, 196,198, 351, 61 and sections of the Madhya Pradesh Dacoity Act.

Addressing reporters on the issue, Digvijay said that the administration officials are working as servants of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

“I want to know under which law, the demolition of houses through bulldozers are carried out. The DM says that he will demolish the houses of only Muslims, not Hindus. This is a criminal act,” he said.

Singh also said that if the police do not take action against the district magistrate, he will initiate judicial proceedings on the matter.
