Malayalam news channel Asianet had shown that the names flagged by the BJP were genuine, says the Congress leader
NEW DELHI — Congress leader KC Venugopal has hit back at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for alleging the presence of bogus voters in Wayanad in Kerala, saying the claims are “baseless” and have been “completely exposed” by facts.
In a post on X, Venugopal said on Thursday that Malayalam news channel Asianet had shown that the names flagged by the BJP were genuine. “The family name repeated across the roll is the name of a village commonly used, and there are indeed three different women with the same name in different booths,” he wrote.
In its desperate attempts to cast aspersion against @RahulGandhi ji and raise baseless allegations against his victory in Wayanad, the BJP failed to do their basic study and have been completely exposed.

Malayalam news outlet Asianet’s two stories have exposed how both the…
The BJP recently claimed there were duplicate voters in Wayanad, where Rahul Gandhi won by a big margin in 2024. Venugopal dismissed the charge as a “circus” and posed four questions to the Election Commission:
• Will the ECI also demand an affidavit from BJP leaders?
• How did BJP scan the Wayanad rolls in a week when Congress took six months for one seat? Did they get machine-readable rolls?
• By making such claims, does BJP admit discrepancies in electoral rolls? And
• If fake voters exist, should results of all 543 seats be reviewed?
The controversy comes amid a wider debate on voter list integrity after Rahul Gandhi alleged large-scale “vote chori” in Karnataka’s Mahadevapura constituency. The EC has asked him to provide proof under oath, while BJP has accused opposition leaders of benefiting from fake voters.
Wayanad has long been a political stronghold for the Congress — Rahul Gandhi won from there in 2024, but later vacated it, necessitating a by-election in November. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra then claimed the seat with a resounding victory margin of over 4,10,000 votes.
Venugopal underlined that the BJP’s lack of a plausible case. The rollout of allegations without due diligence, he maintains, showcases desperation over genuine electoral battles.
