Congress Accuses Modi Govt of Weak Diplomacy Over Silence on Trump’s Ceasefire Claim

Date:

Congress MP and CWC member Praniti Shinde said that at a time when the country is seeking clarity, transparency, and decisive leadership, Prime Minister Modi’s continued refusal to attend an all-party meeting or convene a special session of Parliament raises serious concerns.

NEW DELHI — The Congress on Thursday questioned the government over its failure to apprehend the terrorists responsible for the Pahalgam massacre, even a month after the attack. The party also criticised the Modi government’s silence on US President Donald Trump’s repeated claims about pressuring India into agreeing to a ceasefire, arguing that the lack of response has weakened India’s global standing.

“The people of India deserve accountability, not theatrics,” the party stated.

Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters, Congress MP and CWC member Praniti Shinde accused the Modi government of reducing critical issues such as national security, diplomacy, and internal stability to “mere photo opportunities and hollow narratives.” She said that following Operation Sindoor, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has focused more on optics and self-promotion than on providing real answers.

Shinde pointed out that, even in the aftermath of the brutal terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed many lives, the country is still waiting for a response. “Why are the terrorists responsible for this heinous act still at large? What concrete steps have been taken to bring the perpetrators to justice?” she asked.

Referring to former US President Donald Trump’s repeated claims that he used trade threats to pressure India into agreeing to a ceasefire, Shinde said the government should have responded immediately. “Why has the Modi government remained completely silent in the face of such a humiliating assertion?” she asked.

“Is this the cost of surrendering India’s diplomatic leverage under international pressure?” She added that the government’s silence following Trump’s remarks has made India appear weak on the global stage.

Shinde also expressed concern over a statement by External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, who said publicly that India had informed Pakistan at the start of Operation Sindoor that the targets were terrorist bases, not the Pakistan Army.

“Why was such sensitive information shared with Pakistan during an ongoing military operation?” she asked. “And what consequences has this disclosure had on India’s national security and strategic deterrence?”

She further noted that at a time when the country is seeking clarity, transparency, and decisive leadership, Prime Minister Modi’s continued refusal to attend an all-party meeting or convene a special session of Parliament — as requested by the Congress leadership — raises serious concerns.

“What is the Modi government trying to hide? Why is it avoiding a discussion on such critical national issues in Parliament, where elected representatives are duty-bound to seek and deliver accountability to the people?” she questioned.

Shinde concluded by criticising the BJP’s approach of addressing national crises with what she described as “glossy PR,” stating that it has undermined democratic values and weakened institutional responses.

“The Prime Minister cannot run away from scrutiny. The people of India demand and deserve honest answers — not carefully scripted speeches, drone shots, and choreographed silence,” she asserted. “Everything can’t be reduced to a PR exercise. National security is not a reality show. It’s time the Modi government treated it with the seriousness it deserves.”
