NEW DELHI – The Puran Pratishtha at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya on Monday marked the nationwide Shobha Yatra celebrations witnessing incidents of hooliganism and communal tensions.

In Ayodhya, Hindu priest Paramhans Acharya burned an effigy of Mughal Emperor Babar, symbolizing the victory of Puran Pratishtha. Simultaneously, across the country, Shobha Yatras were marred by incidents, revealing instances of mischief, tension, and provocations.

Reports emerged of miscreants throwing stones at Muslim neighborhoods during the procession, particularly in Maharashtra, Delhi, Karnataka, and Bihar. Notably, Muslim communities showcased exemplary patience and tolerance amid the rising tensions.

In Karnataka’s Shimoga, a Muslim woman responded to Jaishree Ram slogans with Takbir Allahu Akbar, expressing discontent with the government and accusing the police of bias. In Haryana’s Hisar, women devotees at a Bajrang Dal rally waved swords, showcasing their strength.

Instances of provocations continued as miscreants climbed a church in Madhya Pradesh, removed the cross flag, and waved the Hindu flag. Similar incidents occurred in Gujarat, where a crowd brandished swords in a Muslim neighborhood, resulting in clashes.

The police have reportedly taken unilateral action in response to the unrest, and the situation is currently under control in various areas. In Mumbai, the celebration took an alarming turn as some individuals raised guns and other weapons while shouting Jai Shri Ram.

Communal tensions were further exacerbated in Bihar, where provocative songs played in Muslim neighborhoods during the Shobha Yatra. Attempts at mischief were reported in Darbhanga district, leading to clashes between locals and those participating in the procession.

Authorities in various regions have intervened to maintain order and prevent the escalation of communal tensions. In Gujarat’s Meera Bhayandar, the police stopped an attempt at mischief, while in Bihar, the police warned youths taking out processions without permission.

While the situation in most areas is reported to be under control, these incidents underscore the need for vigilance and responsible celebration to prevent further escalation of communal tensions.
