DUBAI —  “This is Omran. He’s alive. We wanted you to know.” CNN anchor Kate Bolduan broke down while reporting on this heartbreaking photo from Aleppo, Syria.   While reporting on the heartbreaking footage of Omran Daqneesh, the Syrian boy who survived a military airstrike in Aleppo, CNN anchor Kate Bolduan lost her composure and broke down on air.

Bolduan was sharing details about the five-year-old and the state he was in following the airstrike. The footage showed little Omran being pulled out of rubble and put into an ambulance, made catatonic by trauma. His face, covered with dust and blood, is being seen as emblematic of the current Syrian crisis.

Visuals of Omran have left the entire world shocked and grieving, reflected by Ms Bolduan in her segment. “What strikes me is we shed tears, but there are no tears here. He doesn’t cry once. That little boy is in total shock. He’s stunned. Inside his home one moment and the next, lost in the flurry and fury of war and chaos,” she says, fighting back tears.
