NEW DELHI – Hindutva trolls are continuously targeting celebrities with hate messages after the latter raised their voice against the slaughtering of children, women and civilians by Israeli forces in Gaza. The hate messages even forced some of the celebs to delete their posts.
Ritika Sajdeh, wife of the captain of the Indian cricket team Rohit Sharma, deleted her solidarity messages with Palestine after she and her family members were abused online. She had posted the message Reacting to her post “All Eyes on Rafah” on Instagram, she was called a “prostitute”, “terrorist sympathiser”, and “anti-Hindu”. She was asked to go to Gaza to join Hamas. Even, she was given a death threat in the comment box.
Several social media users also came in her support and slammed the trolls for targeting her.
“Yes, it is outrageous that Ritika Sajdeh took a stand against mass killings of people in Rafah. She should have uploaded a story in support of these killings,” said journalist Kaushki Raj.
It was not just Sajdeh who deleted her post after getting trolled. Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit, cricketer Mohammed Siraj and BJP leader Manoj Tiwar’s daughter Rahiti Tiwari deleted their Instagram stories on Rafah after receiving hate messages.
They were accused of taking money for posting Instagram stories supporting Palestine. #BoycottBollywood was trending on X.
Taking note of the hate campaign, Bollywood actress Pooja Bhat said: “And it begins YET again! The price the entertainment industry pays for speaking up collectively for the atrocities being committed in Palestine. #AlleyesonRafah”.
Some mocked the solidarity message “All Eyes on Rafah” by embedding images of animals like pigs and dogs in the posts.
Days after civilians were slaughtered in Rafah, Indian celebrities have erupted into solidarity protest with people in Gaza. Scores of them posted Instagram stories and put social media posts drawing world attention towards the ongoing genocide. This act of solidarity did not go well with the Hindutva supporters, who started targeting these celebrities with hate messages.
