PATNA: The question paper of CBSE for Mathematics (Class X) was leaked from Patna and 12 people arrested from Bihar and Jharkhand in this connection include a Jharkhand leader of ABVP, the student wing of BJP-RSS combine. This information was revealed by Akhilesh B Variar, Superintendent of Police, Chatra district (Jharkhand) in a press conference on Saturday.
The question paper of Economics (Class XII) was also leaked. The exams were held on 28th March and after reports about the leak, the CBSE has since cancelled the two papers.
Addressing a press conference, the SP said that the leaked question paper had reached Chatra from Patna through Whatsapp. Twelve people have been arrested in this connection. They include a leader of ABVP who is also owner of a coaching centre in Chatra. The arrested persons include 9 minor students who have been sent to a remand home in Hazaribagh.
ABVP leader has been identified as Satish Pandey who is Chatra district coordinator of the saffron outfit and owner of a local study centre ‘Study Vision’. District Police chief Akhilesh B Variar said it was Pandey who took money from students for the leaked questions. He had sent the 28th March question paper to students through Whatsapp on 27th March itself.
The SP also said that Pandey had helped in sneaking in solved questions in a prestigious school where CBSE exam was being conducted on 28th March. This resulted in cheating in the exam hall at the school.
He also informed that the SIT constituted by the Chatra Police arrested two persons from Patna — Gaya resident Amit Kumar and Chhapra resident Akash Kumar. Both, he said, were in touch with education mafia in Delhi.
The three, including ABVP leader, have been sent to jail.
Only on Friday, the CBSE had announced new date (April 25) for fresh exam of Economics (Class XII) and said that retest of Mathematics (Class X), if necessary, would be held in July and only in the region of Delhi, Haryana and NCR. Many were surprised on the announcement of the CBSE. They asked: On what ground has the CBSE announced it would hold the retest of Class X paper only for Delhi, Haryana and NCR region?
How Chatra (Jharkhand) Police Cracked Fraud
Four students were caught while cheating during the CBSE exam at Jawahar Navodaya School in Chatra on 28th March. The principal of the school lodged a named FIR against the students.
Taking prompt action on the FIR, the Chatra Police constituted a high-level Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case. During the interrogation of the students, two more persons were found to be involved in the fraud. Consequently, owners of the Study Vision coaching centre, Satish Panday (ABVP official) and Pankaj Singh were arrested. They confessed the crime and told about their coaching centre’s mathematics teacher Himesh. As the investigation progressed, it was found that the 27th March paper of Class X was sent by two students from Patna to a student in Chatra through Whatsapp. This student was also caught while doing cheating in the exam hall at the Navodaya School.
Since the cancellation of the two papers by CBSE on 28th March, thousands of affected have been holding protest demonstration across the country. Massive protest was held on Saturday outside the CBSE headquarters in New Delhi.
