Burqa Dance in Amroha School: Muslim Groups Upset at Administration’s Silence

Date:

Second clip shows boys dancing in burqa and the principal clapping, residents speak of hurt feelings, urging fair treatment

AMROHA — A controversy at Mesco Public School in Amroha in Uttar Pradesh has grown after a second video showed boys dancing in burqas inside the school premises, with the principal seen clapping. The clips are linked to a carnival event held on December 29. A fresh video dated January 1, 2026, spread widely on social media and led to anger among Muslims in the district.

Community leaders say the act makes a mockery of Islamic dress and belief. They say the setting of a school makes the matter more serious, as children learn values there. Many have asked why quick and firm steps were not taken when the first video appeared.

Zeeshan Pasha, district president of the Young Muslim Committee in Amroha, met the Superintendent of Police and filed a complaint. He said, “This act has hurt the religious feelings of Muslims. It should not be taken lightly. A school is not a place to make fun of any faith.”

He added that the police assured him that the matter would be looked into under the law. “We want fair action, nothing more and nothing less,” he said.

Earlier, Mansoor Ahmed of the Muslim Committee, Amroha, demanded strict steps against the school. “If this was done to insult Islam, then the school’s recognition should be reviewed. Those responsible must be punished,” he said.

The issue has also raised questions about double standards. Some residents say Hindu groups often react loudly to such videos, yet stay silent when Muslims raise concerns. Akbar Saifi, a resident of Naugawan Sadat, said, “This looks like a planned insult to Islam. Even if our own people were involved, action is needed. If someone from another faith had done this, there would have been chaos by now.”

Another resident, Tariq Azim, said the delay in action was troubling. “The video is everywhere, yet the school management faces no clear penalty. This hurts Muslims deeply. The administration must step in and act,” he said.

Amid the anger, the school principal released a letter expressing regret. The letter said the incident was wrong, such acts would be banned in future events, and the students involved would be warned and dealt with under school rules.

Many Muslims say an apology alone is not enough. They want clear action to show that faith is respected and that schools remain places of dignity for all communities.
