The Times of India reported that Agarwal — a Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) leader who was accused of instigating violence — was nabbed from Hapur in the early hours of Thursday. He was on the run ever since the police began investigating the violence which broke out in Siyana tehsil of the district on 3 December, 2018.

Agarwal had gone into hiding soon after the incident and had released a video alleging Police Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh was corrupt and blamed the violence on him. .

According to sources, Agarwal is being questioned by a Special Investigation Team and will be produced in court on Thursday.

He sustained fatal head injuries by stones and also a bullet hit him in the head. A civilian Sumit Kumar of Chingrawathi village was also killed in the violence.

Inspector Subodh Kumar had investigated the mob lynching case of Mohammad Akhlaq over rumor of beef consumption at his home in Noida’s dadri village during a certain period from Sept 28, 2015 till Nov 9, 2015.

The famiy members of the slain inspector earlier blamed the UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of playing cow politics to increase hiatus between Hindu and Muslim communities which took life of the inspector.

My brother was investigating Akhlaq case & that is why he was killed, its a conspiracy by the Police, sister of Inspector Subodh Kumar quoted as saying by ANI.
