The government has committed theft at every level, says Congress general secretary at a massive rally in Bihar’s Madhubani
MADHUBANI/NEW DELHI – Launching a blistering attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress general secretary and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday warned people against ‘vote chori’ (the theft of votes). The wicked and villainous tactic BJP is adopting in collusion with the Election Commission, could eventually strip citizens of their rights and entitlements, she said.
Addressing a massive gathering during the tenth day of the Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar’s Madhubani, Priyanka accused the BJP of systematically eroding democratic foundations.
She sarcastically recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speeches during the 2024 general elections in which he had warned people about the theft of buffaloes.
“When Prime Minister Narendra Modi was telling you during the parliamentary elections that the Congress will steal your buffaloes, he was actually stealing your votes himself at the time,” she remarked, drawing loud cheers from the crowd.
The Congress leader alleged that the BJP’s “theft” extended far beyond elections. “They have stolen your jobs, your public sector companies, and your future. This government has committed theft at every level,” she charged.
Priyanka cautioned the audience that a stolen vote was not just an electoral malpractice but a threat to their very identity. “Your vote is the foundation of democracy; it is your identity. If your vote is stolen today, your citizenship might be in danger tomorrow. You may lose your right to welfare schemes and even employment opportunities,” she said.
Her remarks struck a chord with the gathering, which erupted in slogans of “Vote chor, gaddi chhor!” as she concluded her fiery speech. The atmosphere in Madhubani turned electric, with Priyanka’s warning serving as both a rallying cry and a sharp indictment of the BJP’s governance record.
