Authorities say Louis Gabriel D and Annushie Emma Christine violated tourist visa rules by engaging in political activity in Ajmer and Pushkar in Rajasthan
JAIPUR – Two British tourists have been ordered to leave India after they were found putting up posters and stickers supporting Palestine and criticising Israel in public places across Rajasthan. Officials stated the action this week was taken because the duo violated the conditions of their tourist visas by engaging in political activities.
The individuals have been identified as Louis Gabriel D and Annushie Emma Christine. According to police reports, the pair put up the material in various public spots in Ajmer. Stickers were also reportedly put up in Pushkar, a town known for a significant resident population of Israeli tourists and travellers.
The state’s Intelligence Department received information about the posters on January 21. After assessing the matter as serious, they alerted the district police. “The intelligence wing alerted us, and we subsequently questioned the two foreigners,” a senior police officer in Ajmer said.
Following the inquiry, authorities concluded that their actions breached the terms of their tourist visas. “They were on a tourist visa but were involved in political activity, which is a violation of visa conditions. Therefore, they have been asked to leave the country,” the officer explained.
Local municipal teams, with help from police, removed the posters and stickers from walls and other public property. The case highlights the strict enforcement of visa regulations that prohibit foreign nationals on tourist visas from participating in political demonstrations or campaigns within India.
The couple, believed to be in a relationship, had been staying in Pushkar. They have now been directed to depart from India. As of now, there has been no public statement from the two tourists regarding the order or the allegations.
